In the Catholic religion there are 7 sacraments

There are 3 groups of sacraments

Baptism

What is Baptism?

-Baptism says that you are a follower of Jesus Christ.

It is a connection Jesus Christ and an important foundation for our lives.

Baptism is a symbol of Christ

-Oil of Chrism, Holy water and the candle are symbols

Rituals- The tracing of the sign of the cross on the forehead and the lowering of the top of the head dipped into the holy water

Vocab For Baptism

-Oil of Chrism-the oil used in some traditional Christian churches during baptism; it is believed to strengthen the one being baptized to turn away from evil, temptation and sin.

• Candle-The Paschal candle is the first candle to be lit with a flame from this sacred fire, representing the light of Christ coming into the world. This represents the risen Christ, as a symbol of light (life) dispelling darkness (death).

Confirmation

• The Catholic religion receives an outpouring of the Holy Spirit
• Through Confirmation the Holy Spirit lets people to increase the Catholic faith and to see Christ in every situation

symbol- of being called and strengthened for an important task

• ritual-the Bishop stretches out his hand over the children and calls down the power of the Holy Spirit. This is a profound gesture
• vocab-the action of confirming something or the state of being confirmed

Eucharist

What is the last supper?

-The Catholic Prayer which shows respect to the Last Supper,

-The last supper was a feast in which bread and wine are eaten to represent the body and blood of Christ.

-the Last Supper was where Jesus would be betrayed and would eventually lead to his death down the road.

symbols-Bread and wine , Fire or light is a symbol of the Holy Eucharist because it represents god's purifying presence.

Defenitions Communion-the service of Christian worship at which bread and wine are consecrated and shared.

Rituals in The sacrament of Eucharist- The main ritual is receiving the body and blood of Christ, and Transubstantiation which is the conversion of the Eucharistic elements into the body and blood of Christ.

Reconciliation

What is Reconciliation?

The General term for Reconciliation is rebuilding a relation with someone whom you have wronged or they have done harm to you.

What does it mean as a Sacrament?

Reconciliation celebrates that God forgives over and over agian

-We Reoncile through brokenness and failings in confession to priest

symbol-A Raised Hand. During the Rite of Reconciliation, after the penitent makes the Act of Contrition, the priests offers the Prayer of Absolution, the blessing that removes the person’s sins, and as he does so he extends his right hand over the penitent’s head.
