Maria has always wanted a dog ever since she could remember but her Mom and Dad have always said no. Finally one day they said yes. When her mom told her about all the responsibility that comes with a dog, Maria didn’t care. She said “i’ll clean up after it, feed it, even take it for walks”. Her parents said “we can go to the pet store tomorrow”.

That night Maria could not sleep. She was laying in bed thinking about what her dog was going to look like, the name, and all the things they were going to do together. When she finally fell asleep she dreamed all about dogs and playing with them in her backyard. She dreamed about her backyard being filled with dogs. Small dogs, big dogs, fluffy dogs, and wrinkly dogs.

When she woke up she was so anxious to meet her new friend. Maria began to get dressed, brushed her teeth and hair. When she came downstairs her parents had made pancakes. She was so excited she told her mom “I don’t want to eat. Let’s go right now to get a dog, right now! Her mom told her “we can’t go right now because we have to wait for your dad, so eat your breakfast while we wait for him”.

When her dad came downstairs a few minutes later they left for the pet store. While they were driving to the pet store Maria didn’t say a word. She was quiet as a mouse. When they pulled into the pet store Maria got out of the car and started to run towards the store through the parking lot. Her parents just looked at each other, smiled and then followed Maria into the pet store. 

When Maria found the dogs she looked and looked at all of the dogs they had. When she found her parents they too were looking at the dogs. Maria began to look at the dogs with her parents and pick out her favorite ones. All the dogs at the store were puppies but Maria liked the dogs that would grow and grow and be close to her size. Her parents asked which one she wanted to get.

She decided on a little chocolate lab puppy with big blue eyes, long floppy ears, an always wagging tail, and a girl which she wanted. Maria and her parents thought the dog was so cute and her parents said that’s the one they were getting. Now since they had a dog chosen, they would need to get other things for the puppy like a collar, a leash, food and water dishes, puppy food, a bed for the puppy, and toys. When Maria got to pet the puppy for the first time she was so excited. Then she put the leash onto her new puppy to go and pay for everything they got for the puppy.
