Ann Cachussie Huppert (my nana) immigrated from Sicily, Italy when she was 8 years old.

She immigrated because her parents wanted to settle in America, and there were more opportunities here.

She came to the United States by flying here from a small airport in Sicily and landing in JFK Airport.

"The airport was huge, and the language was very strange. We had to go through customs check."

She arrived at night and was picked up by her aunt and uncle to be. My nana was overwhelmed by how different and interesting this new country was.

"The streets were very wide and had multiple lanes. The cars were very big. The scenery was completely foreign and exciting."
