This book is dedicated to Professor Pollart

My name is Sam Houston. I am known as one of the great historical figures in Texas and American history. Although I died a hero, I did not start out that way.
I was born in Timber Ridge Plantation in Rockbridge County, Virginia in 1793

I always had a ton of ambition. I ran away and spent time with Cherokee Indians only to returned home to build a school

I was so ambitious, I joined the Army in 1813. Little did I know my joining the army would change history.

Did I mention I also became a lawyer, congressman, and senator in Tennessee

I decided to move to the great state of Texas. During this time there was growing conflict between the U.S. settlers and the Mexican government. I found myself the commander of the local Army.
I was named Major General in the Texas Army in 1835. I even won the decisive battle of San Jacinto which ended the Texas Revolution.

I was even named President of the Republic of Texas and the town of Houston was founded!

After I served two terms as President, Texas became a state in the United States of America.

Then in 1846, I was elected to the U.S. Senate.
