When Aadila was a little girl, Mama would read her the Quran and tell her stories of the Prophet Muhammad.

"Muhammad was known as the Last Prophet of God. He was born in a place called Mecca in 570 C.E., or common era," said Mama.

"They say that Muhammad received God's words in a cave one day, and his followers wrote down every single last word in the Quran!" continued Mama.

"But one day Muhammad was kicked out of Mecca because the people did not agree with what he believed!" Mama cried.

"So he escaped to a place called Medina in 622 C.E., and this event is known as the Hijra. Hijra means 'the flight,' or 'the migration.'"

"In 632 C.E.," said Mama gently, "Muhammad died in a place called Jerusalem. People were so moved by his story that they built a mosque right where he died..."

"...and they called it 'The Dome of the Rock'."

When Aadila got older, she became a proud Muslim and Mama gave her a brand new Quran, or holy book. Aadila loved it so much that she read it everyday!

"The Five Pillars," read Aadila, "is a code that Muslims follow."

The first rule, or First Pillar, is to declare your faith to Allah, so Aadila did just that. Aadila loved Allah very much, and Allah loved Aadila too.

The second rule, or Second Pillar, says that you must pray five times everyday, no matter where in the world you are. And Aadila did just that.

The Third Pillar talks about alms-giving, which is the giving of charity to those who need it the most. Whenever she could, Aadila would share her food, money, and warm hugs.
