I dedicate this book to my family. I love you.

Liam wakes up bright and early for school. He is so excited for his first day.
"I can't wait to start school today," Liam says, excitedly. "I get to start 4th grade at a new school." He throws his hands in the air. "I'm ready to rock and roll!"

Liam gets dressed and waits for his mom.

Liam's mom walks into the room. "Liam, are you ready for breakfast?"

"Yup!" Liam exclaims. "Okay, let's get you in your wheelchair!" his mom says.

Liam gets in his wheelchair and wheels to the breakfast table.

Liam sits with his parents at the breakfast table. "Are you excited for your first day of school?" Liam's dad asks. "You bet I am!" Liam shouts. "Well, you have to finish your breakfast first if you want to make it to school," his mom says.
Liam grabs his backpack and is all set to go to school.

Liam and his parents head out the door.

Liam's parents drop him off at school. "Bye Mom, bye Dad," Liam says, already wheeling away into the school building.
Liam wheels through the hallway and finds his classroom door.

Mrs. Smith's
4th Grade
Class
Mrs. Smith welcomes and introduces Liam to the class.

Mrs. Smith
Liam waves to his new class and begins to introduce himself. He notices some of the students snickering. He tries to ignore it while his teacher tells him where his new seat is.

Liam begins to wheel to his new seat. A student moves his desk to block Liam's path.

Liam stops his wheelchair and politely says, "Excuse me." The student glares at Liam and begins to speak but is interrupted by Mrs. Smith. "Travis, please move your desk out the way." Liam is confused but brushes it off and wheels to his seat.

At his new desk, Liam tries to make eye contact with the boy sitting next to him. But he avoids his eyes.
Liam sighs. "I hope I can make friends," he thinks to himself.

Liam tries to concentrate during the math lesson and ignore the snickers and laughs coming from some of his classmates. "I hope they are not laughing at me. I will try to make friends at recess," he vows to himself.
"Let's line up for recess!" Mrs. Smith shouts.

Mrs. Smith
Students run to line up for recess. Liam wheels to the middle of the line.

A girl squeals and jumps back. "Be careful of my feet, wheelchair boy. I don't want to end up like you," she says with disgust. Other students start to laugh.

Liam tries to say sorry, but she has already turned around and won't acknowledge him.

Liam feels tears coming to his eyes and tries to hold them back. He starts to wheel to the back of the line.

He hangs his head as his class heads out to recess.

At recess, the other students all run to play tag. Liam tries to join in with the students. Travis tells Liam, "You can't play with us. Only people who can run are allowed to play tag."

Liam wheels to a corner of the schoolyard and cries. "Why does no one want to play with me? What did I do wrong?" Liam spends the entire recess crying and wondering why no one wants to be his friend.

The school bell rings and the students line up to go back inside.

Liam slowly joins the back of the line to go inside. The students are now going to art class.

In art class, Liam sits alone. The art teacher announces that today they will be painting. Liam tries to focus on painting his picture.

Travis walks over to Liam. Liam looks up and before he can speak, Travis drops his bucket of paint on him. Liam stares down in shock and calls for the teacher. Mrs. Potter runs over to Liam and asks what is wrong.
