Once upon a time, there was an eight-year-old boy named Sam who was unlike the other kids his age. He liked doing his homework and studying all day.

He was triangle-shaped, had eyes as green as the colour of forests after it had rained and was as blue as the ocean.

On a clear and sunny Monday morning, Sam rode the big, bright yellow school bus to school. He loved the bus rides.

Once at school his teacher announced,

Listen up class! Next week we’re having a math contest in the school’s gymnasium! The winner will get a prize!

As everyone in the class got excited, Sam felt like he was fitting in, and that made him happy.

Wow! Something I'm good at, I could win this!

Sam thought.
But then, Tommy, the hexagon shaped boy, walked over to him with a couple of his friends.

Hahaha you’re not entering it, right? You are a triangle, triangles are losers! Anyways, I will win whether you enter or not, I'm a hexagon!
Tommy then walked away with his friends, laughing. Sam lost his confidence and could no longer concentrate in class.

Tommy’s right, why did I even think I could win? Me, a triangle? No way!
Ding! Ding! The school bell rang, and it was time to go home. On the ride home, Sam thought to himself.

The bus didn’t look as bright and yellow as before, the sky was darker and cloudier and the air was colder.
Sam did not like this bus ride.

As soon as Sam got home, he finished his homework, hoping to cheer himself up, but he was still very sad.

Later that day, his mom walked up to him. She asked,

Your teacher emailed
me about a math contest, are you going to enter?

Said Sam in a soft and quiet voice.
No, I am a triangle. Triangles don’t win contests, hexagons do.

His mom quickly replied.

What? You are
the smartest and
most amazing kid I know!
