Mt. Olympus, Ancient Greece
















Demeter was the goddess of the harvest. She was responsible for making sure the crops and other plants grew each year.
If she did not do her job, everyone would starve.













Demeter had a daughter whom she loved very much. Her name was Persephone.
Persephone grew up into a beautiful goddess, and that's when trouble started.




















Hades, god of the Underworld, was bored one day, so he brought his 3-headed dog, Cerberus, up to our earthly world.
Cerberus ran around sniffing flowers and met Persephone, who was unafraid.




















Seeing Persephone and Cerberus get along, Hades fell in love with her. But alas, he knew that the gods would never allow them to be together.
Without a second thought, he snatched her up and fled back to the Underworld!







Hades locked Persephone in his dungeon.
His plan was to get her to eat something, for if anyone eats food from the Underworld, they have to stay forever!








Persephone did not want to stay, but she could wait no more. After one week, she ate 6 pomegranate seeds.
She then began to cry because she knew this meant Hades could keep her there ...
