"Dad, guess what?" Sarah stated.
"What?"
"We got to learn about civil rights today in school and we learned how everyone is equal."
"Really? That's great. You're right everyone is equal," her father stated.

"Dad, did you learn about the civil rights movement?" She asked.
"Yes, I did Sarah. I learned about many great people that participated in the movement."
"Can you tell me some of the things you learned in school?"
"Sure, how about we start with important people," her father states.

"These are some of my old notebooks that have some stuff in them I can show you. The first person I remember is Rosa Parks... I can picture the scene in my mind now."

The father pictures the famous scene of Rosa Parks refusing to give up her bus seat.
"Rosa Parks, Sarah, was viewed as a strong woman who fought for her rights one day on a bus," he states.
"Wow, she sounds strong."
"She was and she stood her ground to not give up something that was hers. Many people wanted to be strong like her. She was fighting for her rights through a peaceful protest."

"I will not give you my seat."
"We also talked about Martin Luther King Jr., was he as strong as Rosa?" she asked.
"Oh yes, he was just as strong and powerful. He was the main leader of the movement. He gave a lot of people hope during this time."
