Harry Truman
&
The Truman Doctrine

I first announced the Truman Doctrine to Congress on March 12, 1947. It was then further developed on July 12, 1948 after giving them some time to think about it and have them make a decision. It was named after me.
The Truman Doctrine was an American foreign policy. Its purpose was to counter the Soviet Unions geopolitical expansion during the Cold War. It showed that the Americans gave support for the other countries that were threatened by Soviet communism. I thought that this would be a good thing because we do not like communism, and it makes our country look better because we are willing to help others.
The Truman Doctrine was the foundation of American foreign policy, and I helped lead it into 1949, to help the formation of NATO. The speech that I gave, is often known as the date that started the Cold War.

With this Truman Doctrine, I established the United States would provide political, military, and economic assistance to all democratic nations under threat from external or internal authorial forces.
