Counting

Counting is the first thing to learn. It means to say or think how many things you see. Example:

1, 2, 3, 4 letters

Addition

If your doing addition, it means to add two or more things. An answer to an addition problem is named an addition equation.(uh-kwaa-shin). Example: 7+2=9

Subtraction

Sometimes, you are asked to subtract. To subtract means to take away. Subtraction also has an equation.

Example: 9-2=7

Rounding

The best way to round, is to use a number line. To round, means to add to the nearest ten up if the ones is a 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9, but if the number is 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4 in the ones, you go to the nearest ten down.

Example:

Time

Do you know how to tell time? On a clock (not digital or on the photo) you see a long and short line, pointing to numbers. The short line is for hours (60 minutes) and the long line is for minutes (60 seconds). Each time the long line passes the number 12 its becomes a new our or a number, o, clock and each time it points at a number, it repeats by 5 to 59 then 0 again. (00 05 10 15 20 25 30 35 40 45 50 55 56 57 58 59 00). Every time the short line passes 12, its ether morning (A.M.) or evening (P.M.).

Money

Money is a tool for most things you do, but sometimes you need to know how much money there is. Is there more, less or equal? A coin named a penny is the only coin copper and costs 1 cent. The second coin a nickle costs 5 cents. The next 4 coins are a dime 10 cents, a quarter 25 cents, a half dollar 50 cents and a dollar coin ($1.00). Then you have dollar bills. There are 1, 2, 5, 10, 50, 100 and 1,000 dollar bills in the United States of America.

Estimation

Estimating is giving a smart guess on how much things you see in all. You can add or subtract. When estimating, you say more than or less than and don't say the exact answer or else you might get scored WRONG if you do it on a test.
