The battle of Lepanto started in 1571 of the coast of South East Greece it was a navel battle called galley warfare.

It was between two forces in Europe the Ottoman empire and the United Christian forces. The Christians wanted to keep the Ottoman empire from expanding its forces into Europe.

The Generals on the Christian side where Barbarigo, Bazan, Juan, and Dorio. On the Ottoman side was Mehmet, Muezzinzade, and Uluj. Both sets of Generals controlled a formation of 40-75 galleys.  Holy League deployed 6 galleasses and 206 galleys in total while the Ottoman forces numbered 216 galleys and 56 galliots.

When the two forces meet it was like a wall of ships, both sides moving closer and closer until huge amount of canon rained each side.

The Christian forces sank about 50 ships and captured about 117 galleys but did lose 12 of their own galleys. There was about 4,000 men that lost there lives in the battle of Lepanto.

In the end the Christian forces won and they got the advantage in the war and pushed back the ottoman empire back into central turkey.
