She, along with her husband, owned a restaurant called the Toll House, which opened in 1930.

Wakefield was most known for her Butter Drop Do cookies.

One day in 1937, Ruth was making a batch of her famous cookies when she decided to experiment with Nestlé Semi-Sweet Chocolate....

She cut up pieces and mixed them into the dough, thinking they would melt...

To her surprise, the chocolate held its shape, and the infamous chocolate chip cookie was born!

Ruth started selling them in her restaurant and before she knew it, people from all kinds of places, traveled to taste the cookie!
