Before pioneers, only a few merchants and trappers had traversed along the Oregon Trail. However a variety of factors such as Gold Fever and the search for settlements and opportunities motivated much emigration along the Trail eventually. Pioneers experienced a variety of obstacles, including conflicts with Native Americans, disease, environmental disasters, and logistical errors. Yet those individuals that managed to survive their journeys ended up populating much of the West and developing the foundations for many such territories to transition into statehood. Ultimately, the Oregon Trail was a remarkable pathway that ultimately allowed for the mass expansion of the United States.

Travels Along the Oregon Trail
By: Shloka Ramshankar

Gold and land are really the best.
So the pioneers decide to move to the West.

Families sell all the things they don't need
To pack bags with supplies and food to feed

They travel along the Great Plains first
So far the journey isn't the worst

Some pioneers get caught in the first winter storm
They try very hard to stay kind of warm

The lucky ones make it to their very first stop
Fort Kearney has supplies and a market to shop

Independence Desert is a sign you're on track
If you have come this far, there's no turning back
