Marlee is a lion. She doesn’t like roaring so, the other lions don’t really like her, but since she is a lion she fits in.

One day another lion comes to the zoo, her name is Liz. All the other lions are jealous because she is a beautiful light brown like dark honey and because she is so brazen.  

Marlee and Liz start an auspicious friendship. They like to spend time together especially at the watering hole.

They help each other to become better lions. Liz challenges Marlee to roar and climb trees. Marlee challenges Liz to catch crawdads.

One day Liz doesn’t show up. Marlee wonders where she is but, no one knows. One of the mean lions says that she think she saw Liz with some tigers. Nobody likes the tigers because they aren’t the same as the lions.

Marlee decides to go try to find Liz because they are friends. She leaves a note for them to meet near the watering hole.

Liz finds the note and decides to come. They spend their afternoon lying by the whispering watering hole. Liz tells Marlee that she is actually a tiger and that she was passing or pretending to be a lion. Marlee says that she doesn’t care and that she still wants to be friends.

After their first meeting, they meet often. One day, they find a box of fatal fire ants. Red and JT, who are two bellicose lions, run into them with the fire ants. They take them and say that they are going to put them on Liz’s den.

Red and JT don’t want Liz and Marlee to be friends. They don’t think that lions should be friends with tigers.
