What is the Solar System?
The Solar System is the local neighborhood of Earth in space. It contains one star, which is the Sun, eight planets, 140 moons, and many different asteroids, comets, and dwarf planets.
In the center is the Sun, the 8 planets and other bodies that orbits it. This had been going on for about 5 billion years.
The word "Solar" means of the sun, and "System" is a collection of objects that could make a whole. Therefore, putting the two words together it means a group of objects that are connected with each other because of the sun.
How is the Solar System from the past compared with today?
In the past, Pluto was founded after Uranus and Neptune, In the late 20th century, it was only one of the many small objects in the outer Solar System.

Pluto Uranus Neptune
The other region is the Outer Planets. There are 2 gas planets, Jupiter and Saturn, and 2 ice giant planets, which are Uranus and Neptune. The 2 ice giant planets have rock, ice, and a mixture of water, methane, and ammonia. The 4 Outer Planets are mainly made of gases like hydrogen and helium.

And then in 2006, astronomical community voted to demote Pluto into a dwarf planet, which brought the number of planets down to 8.
Today it contains the Sun, 8 planets, many moons, asteroids, comets, and dwarf planets. The 8 planets revolves around the Sun in the same direction. Although, Uranus rotates on its' sides.

The eight planets are divided into two main regions. One of the region is the Inner Planets which consists of the 4 rocky planets. Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars. These planets are made of rocky materials, on their outer crust. The inner cores are made of mantles and metals, for example, iron and nickel.
