For Riley, always my hero.

Clubfoot:-If someone has clubfoot. They are born with a badly twisted foot or feet.(www.collinsdictionary.com).
You were born with special kind of feet. All tiny, red, and curled within. They were perfect.

For you to be able to walk, the doctors had to straighten them. They used the Ponsetti Method.
Ponsetti Method:-Is a manipulative technique that corrects clubfoot, without invasive surgery. It involves plaster casts and boots and bar.(wikipedia.org).
The first stage was to cast your legs and feet.
From a week old you were put in casts.
Every week we would travel to Wellington Hospital to see the Orthopaedic doctor and nurses.
The nurse would take your cast off using a special plaster saw.And the doctor would put your new casts on.
I would feed you to make it easier for you.You still cried a lot though.

We had a few disasters with your casts. You would keep slipping out of your casts. We would have to travel back to the hospital and get new ones put on.
One time your cast fell off completely. It gave your mummy a fright, when she was changing your nappy, and the whole cast fell off.

All together you had about 10 casts.
When you were two months old, you had an operation called a Tenotomy.
Tenotomy:-the surgical cutting of a tendon, achilles tendon as a remedy for club foot.(google dictionary).
(globalclubfoot.com).

At three months old.You were put in your first set of boots and bar.You cried a lot to start with, and your feet kept slipping out of them.
We eventually just had you, bare feet in them.
It was a challenge. You had to be in them for 23 hours a day. With one hour free to bath you and give you free feet time. You loved that time.
