THE PIE CONTEST

It was a sunny Saturday afternoon and Cookie and two of her best 

friends Vicky the dragonfly and Daisy the penguin were sun bathing 

inside of Cookie’s backyard

Okay someone please take this bag away from me before I eat the whole 

thing! Vicky sighed handing the bag of banana chips over to Daisy

What do you mean before there’s only two left in here! Daisy said looking 

inside the bag

Well two is better then none Vicky smirked lets go inside its getting way 

to hot out here. They were gathering up their stuff when Cookie other 

two best friends Tommy the tiger cub and Sammy the turtle walked into 

her backyard

Hey guys what’s up? Cookie smiled

We’ve a new case Sammy answered

That’s great it’s been a while since the last one I was beginning to think 

that people around here forgot

That we opened a detective club what’s the case about? She asked

Someone stole one of Miss Horse’s pies that she was baking for the county 

bake off. She hired us to find out who did it Tommy stated

Who would do something as stupid as to steal a pie? Daisy frowned

Duh! That’s why she hired us to find out Tommy smirked

So what do we know about the case so far? Vicky asked

According to Miss Horse she placed her cream pie on her window still so it 

could cool off then went to take a bath. When she went to check on the pie it 

was gone there was a note left in its place. That said for her to drop out of 

the contest Sammy began

Oh wow!

We asked her for a list of names of the other people who entered the contest 

he added

Why? Daisy asked

The way we see it the person who stole the pie is entered in the contest. And 

since everyone knows that Miss Horse wins almost every year. They 

probably figured that they’d stand a better chance of winning if she was not 

in it Tommy exclaimed

Very good you guys lets see the list Cookie said. Sammy took out a piece of 

paper and handed it over to her the list contained the names of five people

The owner of the travel agency Mrs. Star fish

Rocky Shores vet Dr. Bones

Cindy Jelly fish a local high school student

Oliver Wolf the local baker and Rocky Shores six grade teacher Miss Whale

Okay tomorrow is the contest so that doesn’t give us a lot of time. So this is 

what we’re going to do me, Vicky and Daisy will talk to Mrs. Star fish, Cindy 

and Miss Whale. And you and Sammy talk to the rest we’ll meet back at the 

clubhouse in two hours to compare notes Cookie stated

It’s a shame that Miss Horse wouldn’t be in the contest this year Vicky said 

as they were leaving Cookie’s backyard

Who said that she wouldn’t be? She told Sammy and me before we left that 

she wasn’t going to let anyone from winning this contest. She was going to 

bake another pie as soon as we left! Tommy laughed

Later on that day there were all gathered inside their clubhouse exchanging 

notes

Okay here’s what we got our good doctor was operating at the time of the 

crime. Sammy checked with his nurse and she told him the same thing. So I 

think we should cross him off the list also it seems that Mr. Wolf’s dropping 

out of the contest Tommy started to explain

Why?

He also got a note telling him to drop out at first he played it off as a joke. 

But when he started to bake his cherry pie it exploded. According to him 

someone switch his flour with baking soda

That sounds a little fishy how can someone switch his flour without him 

noticing it Cookie frowned

To us to but he said that he had to go out in the middle of making his pie. 

Cause he ran out of cherries and had to go to the store and buy some more 

Tommy shrugged

Still instead of crossing him out let’s just put a question mark next to his 

name Cookie replied

So how did it go with you guys? Sammy asked

Well it looks like all of them got notes telling them to drop out. According to 

Mrs. Star fish’s assistant she’s out of town and won’t be back until late this 

afternoon. So we crossed her off next Cindy told us that she went to the 

movies with her friends. But she could’ve just made that up

What about Miss Whale? Sammy asked

She took her weekend day care kids to the park so we crossed her off the list 

Vicky answered

So it looks like its between Cindy and Mr. Wolf, Daisy added

Yah but which one? Tommy asked. Cookie thought about that question for a 

I’ve to check on something I’ll talk to you guys later! She ran out before anyone could ask 

her where she was going

Later that night she called Vicky

Hi I know who stole Miss Horse’s pie I just need to check on one more thing to be certain. 

Can you call the others and tell them to meet me at the bake off and I’ll tell you guys who 

did it then thanks!

The next day at the annual county bake off there was a big crowd. All if them waiting for 

the judges to announce the winner

Excuse me may I’ve your attention please! Cookie cried out yesterday Miss Horse hired 

the we always catch our crooks club to find out who stole her pie. And I’m happy to 

announce that we solved the case it was Mr. Wolf

What! Young lady I’m afraid that you’re mistaken! Mr. Wolf snorted

No I’m not yesterday you told my friend Sammy and Tommy that someone had sneaked 

into your bakery. While you went to the market and switched your flour with baking soda. 

You also 

a little strange and had my mom call her friend who works at the market 

that you claim to been at but she never saw you in there

Well maybe she wasn’t working when I went there? He sneered

Yes she was she told my mom that she’d be there all day cause 

someone called in sick. Admit it Mr. Wolf you made up that story and you 

also wrote those notes to the others warning them to drop out Cookie 

answered. Everyone just stared at Mr. Wolf with surprise and confused 

looks on their faces

A few seconds later Mr. Wolf broke down and confessed

Okay, okay she’s right I’m guilty but I never meant to hurt anyone. I just 

wanted to scare the other bakers away so I’d win. Business at the bakery 

isn’t doing so good I wanted to win to get the money. So I can pay some of 

my bills

I’m sorry Mr. Wolf you’re no longer in the contest please take your pie off 

the judges table Mrs. Bug stated

A few minutes later he announced the winner

Miss Horse!

Soon after the judges everyone congratulated Cookie and her friends for 

doing such a good job in solving the case. Miss Horse was so happy that she 

offered them her prize money as a reward. But they turned her down

Well I insist in giving you kids some kind of reward after the terrific job you 

did she told them

Well if you insist I can think of something that you can give us that we’ll be 

very happy with Tommy giggled

What?

A big slice of your declivous cream pie!
