Dedicated to the Huguenots of the 16th century

Once upon a time in olden France...
There was a war. Many wars, in fact. This was because the French Catholics in France were mean and bullying the Calvinist Protestants, called Huguenots, simply because they were different.

The Huguenots just wanted to practice their own beliefs in peace. However, the Catholics believed that the Huguenots' beliefs were goofy. The Huguenots believed the Catholics were silly in general. The Catholics and Huguenots fought for a total of eight times between 1562 and 1598.

In March 1562, the Duke François de Guise punished a hundred Huguenots for practicing their religion, even though they were minding their own business. All of France was shocked, and it all fell into chaos. Huguenots and Catholics all over the country began fighting with each other!
In 1567, the Huguenots decided to fight with the Catholics (again.) They felt that the Catholics were being rude, unfair, and that they were hurting their feelings. The angry Huguenots took control of a few French towns. The Catholics fought back just as hard and beat up many Huguenots in Paris.
Even though the Huguenots and Catholics made peace with each other in 1568, five months later, they started fighting again! Because other stressful events outside of France happened, all of the French people were restless. Other Huguenots in the Netherlands were also being treated meanly by their king, and the French Huguenots felt sorry for them. Both of them were helped by the Prince of Orange and the Queen of England.
In 1572, two important people were about to get married! Henri de Navarre, a Huguenot prince, married Marguerite de Valois, who was the sister of the current French king. However, a few days after their wedding, one of their friends was targeted by the Catholics. The Royal Council of France decided to hurt the main Huguenot leaders, but then nearly 4,000 other Huguenots got hurt. They also forced Henri de Navarre to become Catholic. Because the Catholics were being so mean, many Huguenots had to flee to country.
