BIOLUMINESCENT CRYSTAL JELLYFISH
KINGDOM - Animalia
PHYLUM - Cnidaria
CLASS - Hydroza
ORDER - Leptothacata
FAMILY - Aequoreidae
GENUS - Aeqourea
SPECIES - Victoria
SCIENTIFIC NAME - Aqourea Victoria
SIZE - 3-10 Inches
LIFE SPAN - 6 Months
HOW IT OBTAINS ITS NUTRITION
AND WHAT IT EATS
Phylum Cnidaria - Class Anthozoa (Crystal Jellyfish) are known to most commonly eat soft bodied organisms that they can properly digest. They can also eat things such as plankton, larvae, and even some smaller crustaceans. They eat by injecting venom, through their tentacles into the prey they catch with their suction cups. They can also eat smaller jellyfish such as Copepods and Comb Jellies.

REPRODUCTION AND LIFE CYCLE
- Mature Crystal Jellyfish release internally fertilized eggs and sperm from their body into the water at different times throughout their life span
- These fertilized eggs swim about for some time, transforming into "Planula Larva" which is a small larvae that is flat, round, free swimming and bilaterally symmetrical.
- These larvae then develop into a Polyp, settling down on the ocean floor and growing bigger, with tentacles beginning to form around the opening at their top (mouth/anus) as they start to bud.
- After the polyps feed and grow for a while, they are always released in the Spring as "Ephyra Larvae", immature jellyfish that swim around and feed, which develop later into full grown, mature jellyfish.
- Their total life span is about 6 months.
MOBILITY
Crystal Jellyfish are Motile - they swim around using their tentacles as little propellers, but more often than not they will let the ocean currents guide them. They'll just float happily along and swim only if a predator (Such as a Lion Many Jelly,) or some other sort of threat comes along.

HABITAT / LOCATION
Crystal Jellyfish prefer the open waters of the deep ocean, and can be found anywhere in the Pacific along the West Coast from the Vancouver/ Victoria area down to around California. These Jellyfish stay closer to the shore line rather than way out in the middle of the ocean.

RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS
The Crystal Jellyfish can consume smaller jellyfish, and sometimes cannibalism occurs among them. They are not an endangered species and do not interact with humans unless they sting an individual who gets too close. These stings are not poisonous and are often not painful, only noticeably itchy. The main enemy of the Crystal Jellyfish is the Lion Mane Jellyfish, who will sting, and consume those unfortunate enough to be caught.
