The Princess and the Soft Bed is a fractured Fairy tale inspired by The Princess and the Pea. I always wondered what the princess felt sleeping on that pea. Most of the fairy tales are about a princess finding her prince. Just for once I would like to read about a princess looking for something she wants. Instead of the prince finding the princess what would it be like if the princess was searching for a good night rest.

In another galaxy far far away, there lived a princess. She wants to be happy but could not find a good night sleep. With not being able to sleep well since her 13th birthday, it has made her very cranky.
She would go palace to palace, cottage to cottage, trying to find the softest bed. Night after night she could not get that good night sleep. So, she decided that it was time to go home.

On the way home there came a terrible storm. The winds were furious, and the rains poured down. It pushed the boat off course. Then the boat hits land.

When the storm had ended the princess looked around. There was nothing around, so she investigated. She came to a large wooden gate. She went to knock on the gate and it opened.

There was a man standing in front of her. He was a prince, but his clothes were all tattered. She said she was a princess lost, and he said he was a prince that chose to be lost.

They each thought we will see if that is true. The princess asked if she would find a place to sleep. The prince said” I have a bed for you, but I don’t know if you could fall asleep” for it was very lumpy. But the princess fell fast asleep.

After waking the prince asked, “how did you sleep?” The princess replied, “I haven’t been able to sleep in years but tonight I finally fell asleep.”

The princess thought if I could sleep on sticks and leaves and get a good night sleep why could not I sleep on all the other beds.
The prince told the princess of the tradition of his land. Only a true princess could feel the pea placed into the mattress. So, while he searches the lands for a true princess none could be found.
The queen would be outraged if the prince came home without a princess. No one could feel that pea in the mattress.
So instead of making the queen made the prince found this island and made a home. The princess said I am a real princess and I can marry you. So together they went back to his land.
Once back the queen was delighted to see her son the prince’s return with a princess. But the queen still wanted to make sure she is a true princess.
