It is midnight on Halloween morning, and Skeleton Scott awakens from his sleep. He has been sleeping for three thousand years! "It feels good to stretch my bones," he says as he rises from his grave!

Aah!

Scott creaks himself out onto the streets. He thinks it is perfect weather and conditions for Halloween. Dark, stormy, and the town is illuminated by thousands of glowing faces in the windows. "Jack o' lanterns!" Scott realizes. He runs over to say hello to his friend, Jones the Jack o' Lantern, who is perched in a window nearby.

"Hello, Jones," Scott says as he moves over to Jones' window. "Hello, Scott," the jack o' lantern whispers. He must look unenthusiastic, because Scott gives him an odd look. "I'm sorry, Scott," he says. " But Halloween is being messed up by someone who doesn't like to be scared!"
"What do you mean?" Scott asks.
"Well, let me show you!"

Jones and Scott walk silently down a dark alley for a few minutes. Then finally they stop in front of a scary-looking house. That doesn't bother them. "Why are you showing me this house?" Scott wonders.
"Well" Jones explains... "this is where my old friend Winifred Witch lives."
"She's the person who is ruining Halloween? But if she is a friend of yours, why would she do this? And what did she do?" Scott says, confused.
"Well," Jones begins.
"A long time ago, Winifred and I were really close friends. We loved scaring people together. But one Halloween, Winifred saw something that scared her. And she never scared again."
"How is that ruining Halloween, though?" Scott wants to know.
"Winfred was one of the most powerful scarers ever. Without her, we are losing power, and Halloween is not as fun."
"Let's go talk to Winifred, then," Scott says, and the two worried friends enter the house.

Before long, Scott and Jones find themselves in a big, dark, creepy, empty room. In the corner there stands a fashionably dressed witch, who waves them away, but then recognizes Jones. "Jones is that you?!" she gasps. "Yes! And we have come to talk to you about scaring," he replies.

"There's nothing to talk about, I'm never going to scare anyone again," Winifred cried.
"Let me tell you why!"

"One day long ago I was scaring a little girl, and before long I was chasing her. She led me into this colorful creamy sweet candy world, and I nearly threw up! It was horrible and awful, and that's why I'll never scare again!!! To top it off, the girl got away from me!"
