Hello,

My name is Super Amazing Sign Language Man and I am here to teach you about what its like to be deaf or hearing impaired.

Some people are born deaf or with hearing impairments, while others develop them over a period of time, whether from a disease, accident, birth defect, or any number of reasons.

People are diagnosed as deaf or hard of hearing through the use of tests. Doctors do ear exams to look for damage to the parts of our ears that we use to hear, or they do a series of audio tests where you get to wear big head phones and listen for different sounds.

Depending on the severity of their hearing disability people in the deaf community are called hard of hearing if they are able to hear some sounds and communicate with others in that manner.

Although I am deaf I am just like you! I sleep, use the potty, eat, spend time with my family and friends, and communicate just like everyone else. In fact my super powers are my own special language, and my ability to read lips!

Much like you I learned my special language from my parents after seeing many special doctors and teachers. THis special language is called Sign Language!
