There sat a star in the quiet of space.

It had never moved from its dark birthplace.

Accompanied by nothing, it couldn't relax.

And landed on a distant planet as a brilliant prize.

The people there praised the tear

For it drove away their darkest fears.

The star saw this and with a muffled cry

Decided to let a few more fly.

For many years the planet thrived.

The tears had made the sky come alive.

The star grew big from the tears it shed

Filling with countless words left unsaid.

The people took for granted the stars warm light

That had driven away their bleak twilight.

Despite its new purpose, the star was still sad.

It was lonely and the people would never notice that.

The star had exhausted itself with its compassion

Shrinking into a ball, small and ashen.

The star had realized something.

It's not good to always be helping.

If no one would care for it

Then it was time for the star to quit.

The people could survive.

They had before the star arrived.

So the star slunk off and drifted away.

It was left with no place to stay.
