Scarlet was very happy living in the green meadow munching on
leaves and taking naps in the warm afternoon sun.

inched her way to a nearby grove
of trees, she spied a beautiful
butterfly perched upon a fence.

closer. "Hello. My name is Scarlet. I am a caterpillar. I
live in the meadow. What's your name?"

in the big, blue sky. I flutter
hither and yon all day long. But my home was
once in the meadow, too."

"You too shall one day call the big, blue
skies your home. It is almost your time to
to prepare your chrysalis and then become
something brand new."

to Iris in a scared voice, "But HOW
will I know what to do? Will
I know HOW to become a butterfly?"
Iris replied in a soothing voice,
"You will know what to do. I
promise. Don't be scared, Scarlet."

a little scared. But she
thought about what the butterfly
told her and she felt a little
better. Besides, Scarlet felt she
had something really important to
do, so she began searching for
a sturdy tree to climb.

instinctively began to weave a
chrysalis around her body to
protect her while she was
busy becoming something brand new.
Scarlet felt much less scared now as she
was concentrating on building
the home she would live in for the
next 10 days.
