In 1347 the black death started and by 1350
1.5 million people had died.

The Plague, known as The Black
Death is an unhealthy disease that
spread throughout Asia, Africa and
Europe.

The Black Death mainly affected rodents.
The people were infected by fleas that lived
on the rats. The rats carried the fleas and
spread the plague through out the country.

People started to die. Dead bodies
and rubbish filled the streets.
With the rubbish in the streets the rats
bred fast and spread the plague quickly.
People also spread the disease by
coughing and touching each other.

Bring out the dead.

Because the humans didn't wear
protective clothing they contracted
the disease and that spread the disease
faster.

Healthy people hopped on ships
to get away but they took the rats
and fleas on the ships too. They didn't
know that the fleas and rats were
spreading the disease so the disease
spread from port to port.

The rich people got a Plague doctor
but that didn't help much. Doctors wore
masks to help protect themselves from
the plague.

The poor people didn't get any help
because they didn't have any money.
Sometimes an old lady willing to help
did the best she could.

To try to cure themselves the people
whipped themselves in hope that god
would spare them. They also believed
that if they sinned, God would punish
them by giving them the plague.
