To begin with, medicine is not just a science. Medicine is an important branch of human knowledge. The word medicine is derived from Latin and means ‘the art of healing’. The health system in each country is different. But they all have one goal. The main aim of medicine is not only to treat the illness, but also to diagnose and try to prevent it.

The National Health Service provides free treatment for people living in Britain and gives emergency treatment for visitors. The greater part of the cost is met from taxes taken from people’s wages. People also pay some money every month as a sort of insurance.

The United Kingdom is in the TOP 10 world leaders in the level of development of medicine.

Medical statistics:

Life expectancy rates range from 77.2 to 81.6 years.
Infant mortality is 4.6 deaths/1000 live births.
