Briinngggg!!!!!!! The bell hanging above the large door shook as a new customer entered the jewelry shop. Katherine stood at the counter welcoming the customer into her store. Katherine’s store was not just any kind of jewelry store in Pennsylvania, it had one of the rarest jewels in the entire country.
Since it was a very rare jewel, it is only fitting to be one of the most expensive diamonds in the entire nation. That diamond was worth about 100K. It was known to everyone as The Diamond of Destiny. She always wondered how that jewel got its name. Katherine had a small family but had a very close brother. Her younger brother Mason, was always there to help her out and pick her up when she was down.
Katherine really enjoyed being in his company, because she felt that was the only person she could actually trust that is around her age. When she was younger, Katherine was always left out of groups and didn’t have many close friends. But, she did have the best brother that she could have wished for. Katherine smiled at the older women, who walked in with a cane. Her fingers were decorated with diamond rings, and Katherine easily decided that she was a very rich person.
“How can I help you?” Katherine asked.
“You can’t,” she responded. She ignored Katherine’s friendly request and quickly went back to her business. Ok then, Katherine thought. She started wiping the countertops and was carefully watching the old lady from the corner of her eye. She noticed how the woman suspiciously looked up at her every 30 seconds. It was as if she was about to commit a crime.
Finally, after a ton of time searching for objects to buy, she bought 4 pairs of expensive earrings, a new Rolex watch, and a large red Coach handbag. This was just to name a few. At the cash register, the old lady was staring at our prized jewel. It was almost as if she wanted to take it right from Katherine when she wasn’t watching. When receiving the credit card from the lady to pay, she noticed the name on it.
The name was Mrs. Edwards. Later, another customer strolled into the store. He was a young man, who looked to be in his mid-twenties. He checked out the rings. When Katherine asked him if he needed help, he kindly replied,
“No thanks, I’m just looking around for an engagement ring for my girlfriend.” He didn’t spend nearly as much time looking, and quickly found the ring he was looking for.
When Katherine asked him if he found the ring he was looking for, he gladly answered. Then, he saw the Diamond of Destiny cased inside of the glass and clear counter. He was astonished by how it looked and was equally surprised by the price of it. That was way too expensive for him to buy. Katherine learned that his name was Kyle. His engagement to his girlfriend was in two weeks, so he was buying the ring now.
Finally, it was closing time. Katherine locked all the doors and windows and went to lock all the cases inside the counter. When she went to lock the case of the Diamond of Destiny, she was surprised that it was missing. The jewel wasn’t where it usually was. She looked all over the store in case she misplaced it. She didn’t find the diamond, but she did something lying against one of the windows that she had just locked, there was a lock opener.
Then, she realized that her store was robbed. She was freaking out and called the police. Her boss Brendan Williams was coming in tomorrow morning to check on his store. He was the kind of person whom you didn’t want to get angry. It was also his great-great grandmother’s wedding jewel, so it meant a lot to him.
If he didn’t see that jewel in its place, he would get very mad. Katherine called her brother and explained to him what had happened. It was 5:30 in the evening, Brendan would arrive tomorrow at 8 in the morning tomorrow, so they had about 14 and a half hours to solve the mystery.
The two siblings waited for the police to arrive. They brought along with them a famed detective, by the name of Tom Ferguson. His detective skills were one that solved over 50 mysteries in his lifetime. Though nearing the age of 60 he never lost his touch, he was always interested in a good mystery, and this mysterious disappearance of a ring was something that interested him from the briefing at the police station.
He started with cross-examining the two siblings, he started with Mason, Katherines brother. After he finished with him, he questioned Katherine. Then, when he finished with both, he asked them their story, mainly Katherines.
She explained what had happened, in her story, she included the two people that were in the store before, she also mentioned how the ring was in the case before she noticed that it was missing,
After the detective finished listening, he walked off to examine the store. He took his time especially on the case, where the diamond was supposed to be. When Tom, finished he walked over to where the siblings were talking in the corner.
“Well, I have some good news and some bad news, the good news is that I think I know who has the ring, the bad news is I might need some more time,” Tom said.
“How long are you going to need?” Katherine asked.
“Maybe a couple of days, as I said before I think I know who it is,” Tom replied.
“Can you tell us who it is?” Katherine asked.
“It would be best if I wouldn’t, I have to follow this hunch that I have,” Tom replied. With that, Tom left the building and walked over to his police car, got in and drove away.
“I really am wondering who it would be.” Katherine wondered out loud.
“It could really be anyone,” Mason answered.
