How a Bill Becomes a Law
By: Hali Alsawaf & Hannah Buckner

Hi, my name is Bob. I am a representative for the House. I have an idea for a new bill that will put stricter restrictions on food safety.

First, I need to write the bill. Then, I need to find a sponsor. We also need support from representatives.

I'll be a sponsor!

I will co-sponsor! Now you have two supporters of your bill!

I have to put the bill in the hopper, which is a special box on the side of the clerk's desk.

I'm the bill clerk, and I'll be assigning your bill a number.
Only representatives can introduce bills in the House.

I will now read the bill to the representatives.

The speaker of the house will send the bill to a House Standing Committee

My bill is now going to committee. The committee is a group of representatives who are experts in many different fields.
We will research, review, and revise the bill before sending it back to the House floor.
If more information is needed, the bill will be sent to a sub committee

Yay! My bill was approved. It will now be reported to the House Floor. Once it gets reported there, it is ready to be debated by the U.S. House of Representatives.
We Approve!
