There once was a eggplant named Oscar. While all the 

other fruits and vegetables lived inside the refrigerator, 

Oscar lived by himself in a bowl on the kitchen 

counter. 

He could often hear them singing fun songs like 

"Wheels on the Bus" and "Row Row Row your Boat".

He wished he could join in with them, but there were 

two problems. First, he was stuck on this bowl in the 

kitchen. Second, he couldn't sing!

All Oscar wanted was to have fun with the other fruits 

and vegetables. He did not like being alone. 

One morning, he woke up to find someone else on 

the kitchen table. It was a banana.

"Hello, Banana," said Oscar. "What's your name?"

But the banana didn't answer. It just looked at him.

Maybe he didn't hear me, thought Oscar. "HELLO 

BANANA, WHAT IS YOUR NAME?"

Still, the banana did not respond.   This is irritating, 

thought Oscar. Finally someone to talk to, but he 

doesn't talk!

Just then someone else came to visit. It was apple.        

Apple sees an eggplant and a banana. 

"Hi! I'm Jo-Jo.what's your name?" says apple. 

"Hi. I'm Oscar. nice to meet you. I'm just sitting in 

this bowl wishing to come out of here. I'm trying 

to talk to banana,but he wont talk to me."

"Haven't you heard about banana?" Jo-Jo asked.

"No,what happened?" asked Oscar. 

"Banana can't talk. He is mute," Jo-Jo said.

"What?! how can that be? was he born that way?" 

oscar asked. 

"No,he was fine before. This accident only happened a 

year ago. One day,a little boy came into the kitchen 

and wanted to take something to eat. that 

day,banana felt really cold and didn't want to go with 

us into the refrigerator. its much safer in there,then 

staying out here, on the counter.

"Did the little boy eat the banana?" asked Oscar.

"No. He dropped him, and when the banana fell,he lost his 

mouth."

"Oh my,this is terrible,"said oscar. I feel so bad for banana.  

we should help banana find his mouth back.

"There's no point. we looked in the whole house,and 

couldn't find a thing,"said Jo-Jo. 

"what are we going to do now?"asked oscar.

"There is nothing we could do. we did everything we 

can,"said Jo-Jo.

"come lets just call out pineapple from the fridge to ask 

him to play with us," Jo-Jo suggested. 

"sure,just give me a moment to get out of this bowl. its 

really uncomfortable."said oscar.
