This story is dedicated to Bobbie, a super sweet and loving bunny.

(*Teacher notes this book can be read in the following ways to support reader fluency, READER'S THEATER where the characters would be Bobbie, Butter and a narrator, CHORAL READING where the class reads the book aloud together or REPEATED READING where students would be paired together and read aloud to each other. For a CLD student it would be best to be paired with a more proficient non-CLD reader.)
Butter is a funny, fluffy Holland Lop Bunny who is three years old. Butter had a sweet sister, Bobbie, who she loved with all of her heart.
When Butter and Bobbie were babies they were adopted by a loving family where they were well cared for.

(Teacher notes: FLUENCY - Clarify and explain, if needed, the definition of the word, adopted.
ACCURACY - Holland, pronounced "hall-and" and explain it is a country in Europe.
AUTOMATICITY - review sight words; is, a, and, her and they with the class.
PROSODY - Explain the the class the tempo is a little faster and pitch is higher than normal because it is an upbeat, happy beginning to the story.
COMPREHENSION - Ask the students what types of animals "Butter and Bobbie" are. )
Bobbie and Butter were the best of sisters and would do everything together. Butter was the big sister and Bobbie was the smaller, more curious one.
Bobbie was always looking to get into trouble, but Butter made sure she stayed safe and didn't get hurt.

(Teacher notes: FLUENCY - Clarify and explain, if needed, the definition of the word, curious.
AUTOMATICITY - review sight words; was and the with the class.
COMPREHENSION - Ask the students if they have siblings and how they feel about their sibling, or if they don't have a sibling, how it must feel to have a sibling and how protective they would feel about them.)
When both bunnies were two years old Bobbie became sick and passed over the Rainbow Bridge.

(Teacher notes: FLUENCY - Clarify and explain the phrase, "passed over the rainbow bridge", meaning "died".
PROSODY - Explain the the class the tempo is slower and pitch is lower because this is a sad part of the story because Bobbie has died.
COMPREHENSION - Ask the students how sad they would feel if someone they knew passed away.)
Butter became very sad that she lost her sister and had nobody to play with or keep her company.
Butter's mommy and daddy could see Butter was sad and were trying to think of what to do to make her feel better.
(Teacher notes: AUTOMATICITY - review sight words; had, to and or with the class.
PROSODY - Explain the the class the tempo is slower and pitch is lower because it is still a sad time during the story.
COMPREHENSION - Ask the students what they would feel like if they were Butter and Bobbie's parents? What type of solutions can they think of to make Butter feel better?)

Mommy, I'm sad. I miss my sister...
(Teacher notes: PROSODY - Explain to the class the tempo is slow and pitch is low because the is Butter speaking, even though animals cannot speak, and she is sad.)
Shortly after, Butter and her daddy visited the bunny doctor who said Butter needs a friend.
Butter became excited about the possibility of finding a new friend!

(Teacher notes: FLUENCY - Clarify and explain the word, bunny doctor, and explain a doctor that helps animals feel better is a, veterinarian.
PROSODY - Explain the the class the tempo and pitch is normal in the first sentence and higher and faster in the second sentence because Butter is excited about finding a new friend. The excitement is also noted by the exclamation point at the end of the sentence.
COMPREHENSION - Ask the students what how excited Butter must feel about the possibility of finding a new friend.)
So, Butter's family found Bentley, who was also going through the loss of a sibling and was sad too.

(Teacher notes: FLUENCY - Clarify and explain, if needed, the definition of the word, sibling.
AUTOMATICITY - review sight words; who, was and too with the class.
PROSODY - Explain the the class the tempo is normal and pitch is higher because it is a happy time of the story.
COMPREHENSION - Ask the students how happy Butter and Bentley must feel knowing they have so much in common and they are looking for the same thing, a good friend to spend time with.)
Bentley was living at a bunny rescue home with a lot of other bunnies who were looking for a home too.

(Teacher notes: FLUENCY - Clarify and explain the word, bunny rescue as a place that helps bunnies who were not able to be properly cared for find a good home with a loving family.)
Butter's family took Butter to Bentley's house so they could meet each other and see if they would get along.
When Butter and Bentley met each other they instantly knew they would be best friends.
(Teacher notes: PROSODY - Explain the the class the tempo is normal until the second sentence where it speeds up and the pitch gets higher because Butter and Bentley "know" they will be best friends.)

Bentley was also so excited to have a new sister and to be going to a new home where he would be loved forever.

When Bentley arrived at his new home Butter was excited to show him around.
