That volcano's looking pretty steamy. Hope it doesn't explode!

A volcano appears in the middle of the ocean, ready to explode. Young Peppy the peppy pig is worried.

Unfortunately for Peppy the peppy pig, the volcano explodes at that very second.

I guess volcanoes like bacon....

Peppy wakes up, confused to where he his. There appears to be no life anywhere on this newly formed volcanic rock.

Wait, what!? How'd I get here? Well, I guess this means I can't eat anything. There's nothing living on this rock. Say wait, this new rock is the lava from the volcano that cooled.

Birds suddenly appear 'dropping' lichen onto the island.

AHHH! Birds! If only I could talk to them, but when pigs to fly... Wait they're dropping lichen, the one species on this rock. These lichen are gonna be the first species on these islands, true pioneers. Wait! They're pioneer species.

The lichens die and break down the rock. Nutrients are added to the broken down rock from the dead organism, forming pockets of soil. Birds bring two more species of weeds and grasses (forming three species on the island) that can grow in the new soil.

Well this took a while, but it looks like the lichen created soil and the birds brought over some weeds and grasses that can grow in the soil. Now time to take a nap!
