The leaves fell gently that late October afternoon.
Gently to the ground, the leaves slowly flew.
They landed on benches, grass, and tables.
They landed on trees, but they also landed on people.

One of the leaves would land on Olivia Page, a fifth grade student at Mercy Elementary School in Arkansas.
Olivia was a pretty young girl. Her hair was dirty blonde. She wore knee high socks every day like most of the girls did. She usually wore the same jumper as the other girls, but today she was wearing gym shorts and an orange shirt.

Olivia was not the only student dressed in this uniform. Boys and girls in her class were sectionalized and put on team for the Fall field day at the school. Field day consists of many activities from relay races, tug of war battles, potato sack races, and bungee jumping.

Everyone loves field day.
Everyone except Olivia.
Olivia likes the energy and festivity of the fall Field Day, but Olivia has to take a backseat position every field day, making her feel as though she doesn't fit in with the rest of her classmates.

Olivia was born was a deformed foot, which disables her from participating in these activities. Olivia can't run, jump, climb, or really do much other than walk on her foot, and she must do so sparingly.
She is still assigned to a team though. The orange team. She loves cheering on her teammates and classmates but the empty void created from her feeling left out still remains.

She gets comments from other kids sometimes.
"Why does your foot look like that?"
"Did someone step on your foot when you were a baby?"
"You walk weird."
None of these phrases were unfamiliar to Olivia.
