In Ancient Greece...

An inventor named Daedalus made a Labyrinth for the King of Crete, but was accused of helping a hero escape. The King imprisoned he and his son, Icarus, in a tower.

"We cannot escape by walking or swimming," Daedalus said to his son, "But we can build wings and fly like the birds."

"But we are surrounded by ocean!" Icarus exclaimed.

"I know, son. Which is why we must be careful not to let our wings melt, lest we fall into the sea and die."

So Daedalus and Icarus began to craft wings made from the feathers of birds who landed on the window, and kept it together with the wax of a candle.

"Let us escape in the daylight," Daedalus explained to his son, "so that the King will not discover that we are gone until the night when it is too dark to search for us."
