Hello my name is Mike. I'm going to be telling you about water shortage.

Do you know when it's a hot summer day?

In fact, when it's so hot that you just need a glass of water.

There are some people out there who don't have access to clean, fresh, drinkable water. In fact there 844 million people living without it. according to www.livescience.com 72 percent of the earth is covered in water. but looks can be deceiving. If the earth was the size of a basketball all of it's water would fit into a ping pong ball.

Water shortage or water scarcity is when there is a lack of fresh and clean water to meet the global demands. The rise in population and the growth in urban areas puts pressure on water resources and drains a lot of the water away. Here in New Zealand we export a lot of water to China, and to other overseas countries that struggle with having enough water. Water Shortage effects every continent on the planet, but it does more damage to dry areas such as Africa and the Middle East. Climate change and global warming is a big impact as well.

Global warming means a rise in temperature, which results in drier environments and less water. Another contributor to water shortage is pollution. Our plastic and rubbish that gets into the oceans and rivers pollutes our waters and lowers the amount of clean water. Pollution not only dirties the water but it also dirties the air. Pollution does cause water shortage but it also causes a lot of our environmental problems.

SUMMARY:

The reason why water shortage happens is because of these three reasons:

1.) the rise in population. - the rise in population means we have to provide water for more people, which drains the water even more.

2.) pollution. - rubbish and gases dirty the water which reduces the amount of clean water.

3.) Global Warming. - Global Warming creates a rise in temperature which drys out all the water.
