We dedicate this book to our Nan, who, all the days of her life, has inspired magic and imagination, not only in her children and grandchildren, but the beautiful world around her.

Nan the dragon dwelled in a cozy cottage nestled at the bottom of a moss-covered mountain. For many years, she had walked in the green forest, splashed in the bubbling streams, and made friends with the animals. Her dragon life brimmed with magic and beauty.
Some days, Nan snuggled into her armchair with a good book and a cup of dragon-bean coffee. The earthy smells of her cottage fire lulled her to peace. On other days, she anxiously awaited the familiar squeals and stamps that reminded her of her smoldering young heart, for nothing kept her on her toes quite like . . .
. . . her fiery granddragons!
Nan knew best that young dragon souls require special nurturing, so they'd wait in wide-eyed wonder as she whipped them up something warm and mysterious.
Even when disaster struck, as we all know disasters sometimes do, Nan knew that, with the right perspective, her kitchen calamities could actually be transformed into moments of joy and laughter.
One wild concoction could be turned into one wild afternoon under the shadowy shelter of the forest trees.
Nan always had a backyard adventure awaiting her granddragons. They'd tug and fight, prune and cut, dig and toss, squeeze and carry. Sometimes it seemed like all work and no play.
But Nan made time for quiet and conversation, discovery and contentment.
Nan had many pets over the years, and each one had a unique personality. The granddragons loved her pets!
But sometimes, that love wasn't reciprocated . . . at least, not the way the granddragons would have liked. Nan reminded her granddragons not to love too roughly.
