"Dear Diary, my mom officially made her final decision. I'm switching to Georgia Lakes High School. I'm excited and nervous. I don't want to leave my best friend, Tahliyah. I know I'm going to miss hanging out with her and seeing her everyday. There's no point of me trying to convince my mom to not make me switch schools but my mom is a woman who stands by her words. Now I have to break the news to Tahliyah."
Summer just started and I'm stressing about how I'm supposed to break the news to Tahliyah. I texted her saying, "Heyyy. So I kind of have bad news... Instead of staying another year at Crystal High like I thought I would, my mom is making me go to Georgia Lakes High School next year." After a few minutes of waiting for her response, she responded. All I could think about was how she would handle the news.
I picked up my phone anxious about what her reaction might be. Reading the text she sent me read, "To be honest, Georgia Lakes High School is a good school for you to go to and I think you should go for it. Yeah, I'm going to miss you but don't worry about me because I'll be fine at Crystal High." I read the message a few times thinking of how supportive of a friend I have in my life.
1 month later...
My mom applied for me to enter my new school. Tahliyah kept telling me that I shouldn't be afraid of making new friends or starting a new chapter in life and of course she was right. I've come to the conclusion that on the first day of school, it'll be a breeze and I'll do good without her by my side.
Another month later...
It's the first day of school and I have all the supplies and support I need to make it through my first day. For my first period I have Biolgy/Science. Continuing on with my day I had my 2nd period, Art. My 4th period was P.E. The lunch bell finally rang. At lunch I didn't have anyone to sit with so I took that as a opportunity to make a new friend.
I saw a chocolate skin colored female with long shoulder-length straight hair. She dressed nice for her first day so I sat in front of her so she could see my presence. She looked up from her food to make it obvious she knew I was sitting in front of her. I spoke first saying, "Hey, my name is Ja'zariah but people call me Zariah or Z." She gave me a compliment of how pretty my name sounded, how I dress nice and she said her name was Tamia.
She asked if she could see my schedule. We both realized we had 5 classes in total and our next period we shared together. The lunch bell rang and it was time for us to go to our 4th period which was Algebra 1. Me and Tamia walked to class chatting and when we got to class we sat in the back next to each other. Math isn't really my thing but I pulled out my notebook ready to learn and get going so I could go home. It was my last period of the day and I just wanted to go home.
Ja'Zariah's Schedule:
1) Mrs. Tina (Biology/Science)
2) Ms. Discoe (Studio Art 1)
3) Mr. Crystal (Advanced Reading 1)
4) Coach J (Physical Education)
5) Mr. Brenard (History)
6) Mrs. Dulon (Algebra 1)
7) Ms. Discoe (Studio Art 2)
Mrs. Dulon introduced herself and told us some things about herself. We learned she has a identical twin brother. Moving on with class, she did attendance struggling to pronounce some of our names. Once she finished that, she passed out our syllabus for us to get signed by our parents which was due next week Monday. She then told us to write down our goals that we plan to accomplish for Quarter 1 in this class. She gave us a few minutes to write down our answers and allowed us to share.
Tamia raised her hand volunteering to share what she wrote. Mrs. Dulon silenced the class and allowed her to speak. She started off saying, "My goals that I plan to accomplish for this class is to improve my skills in Algebra 1. Math isn't a subject that I'm strong in but I intend to try my best and end this class with an A." Tamia sat back down and Mrs. Dulon nodded her head indicating that she liked her response.
Class went by quick and we were now playing a game where we have to order ourselves in line by alphabetical order by first name without using the teachers help. We successfully nailed our mission with a few errors but it was fun getting to know everyone's name. Mrs. Dulon reminded us that our only homework was to get the syllabus signed and returned. The bell rang and we were set to go home.
My mom texted me asking if I wanted to walk home since I didn't live far or if she wanted to pick me up. Before responding I asked Tamia does she walk home and she responded yes so I told her we could walk home together. I replied to my mom's text saying I'll walk home today. Me and Tamia played 21 questions where we go back and forth asking each other questions getting to know each other.
She went first by asking if I had any siblings. I told her I have a older brother and sister on my moms side which makes me the last child. Each question brought us closer as friends and we got to learn more about each other. Our neighborhoods were close to each other so before we went our separate ways we got each others phone number and continued walking to our homes.
On my way home, I stopped by McDonald's since I was craving fries and a McFlurry all day. I walked into the mini restaurant, bought what I wanted and kept walking home. I passed by my Community Park that had a pool. I wanted to sit in the park and relax but I had other things I had to do when I get home. I finally arrived home and put my book-bag in the area where I usually do my homework.
My Mom was in her room watching TV. She looked like she was dozing off to sleep so I left her room to take a shower. I got undressed and hung my clothes on my hanger to be put back into my closet. I then put my phone on the charger. I grabbed my towel ready to take my hot shower. About 15 minutes later of handling my hygiene, I dressed myself in Nike shorts, fuzzy socks and a random white T-shirt in my basket of clothes.
I checked my phone for any notifications and saw that Tamia texted me. I texted her back and we continued our conversation until it was time for her to go to Track practice. I left the syllabus on my moms Lampstand so when she wakes up, she knows she has homework of her own to do. I heated up some brown rice and Barbeque chicken in the microwave before finding something to do.
Once my food was finished getting heated up, I set up my food stand. On the table I had my Passion fruit juice in a cup, my food in front of me and Netflix on my phone. I continued watching "Good Girls" until I was done eating. I didn't have anything to do so I checked to see if my mom was awake so I could ask her can I walk around the neighborhood. It was still pretty early until I had to leave for Track practice as well, which wasn't until 4:50.
I walked around my Neighborhood to clear my mind and listened to music. I walked around for about 30 minutes and turned back home so I could get ready for practice. I walked to the driveway of my home and my mom was backing out in her car. She told me she had to go shopping and I told her I would leave for practice soon anyways.
I got dressed in my practice outfit and I told my brother I was leaving. My sister was already sleeping for a long shift she had to work tonight so I let her sleep. I walked to the park and set my stuff in my locker and walked out onto the field. I saw someone who looked just like Tamia so I walked up to her and it was Tamia. I found out that we run track for the same team but have different coaches since the team was so big.
We chatted for a few until it was time for us to practice. An hour went by and we were on our way to pick up our belongings from the locker room to head home. I grabbed my things and walked outside to meet Tamia waiting for me. We walked home together and had a normal conversation. I got home and put my things from my bag back where I found them. I wasn't musky or sweaty so I washed my face and changed into comfy clothes.
