Hello, my name is Lydia Lewis. I have 2 younger brothers and a younger sister. James who is 11 and kept to himself, Maryanne who is 8 and very friendly, Noah who is 6 and the most stubborn person ever, My Ma who is 5 months pregnant is named Hannah Lewis, my Pa's name is James Lewis, and as for me I'm 13 years old and very social I like to talk to almost anyone. This is our story of how we made it in America!

September 5, 1620
Tomorrow is the day that we set sail for America! We have been making preparations to go for almost a year now. we had to sell all the things that we couldn't bring. Even our families cottage we had to sell. I will miss our house with all the rose bushes in the front. Ma said that we could plant more in our new home in Virginia. From sailing on a boat to building a whole new life in the new world. One thing is for sure it's going to be an adventure for the next couple years!

September 6 1620,
Boarding the Mayflower was kind of surreal. I knew this day was coming, but the fact that it is already here kind of scares me. I'm not ready for the 6-week long boat ride that lies ahead of us. Or the new life that is waiting for us thousands of miles away. Noah tried to convince mom and dad to stay here in England, but mom and dad said this is an amazing opportunity for our family. Maryanne started to cry when she saw the boat. I feel bad for her she has always been scared of the ocean and to have to spend weeks on the boat with animals and stranger well that's enough to make anyone nervous.

October 5 1620,
I've made friends with a girl who's name is Jane Elizabeth Burgess. She's very pretty with light brown hair and eyes as green as the ocean. We started to talk when I accidentally ran into her when I was trying to find James one afternoon for dinner, as it turns out she has a brother named Henry and 2 sisters named Emily and Margrett. Henry is 10, Emily is 8, and Margrett is 5. They all have light brown hair with green or blue eyes. They are a wonderful family and we've spent the whole week talking with them. James and Henry have gotten along well. So have Emily and Maryanne. I'm glad that I now have a friend. It makes our situation seem less dreadful.

October 28 1620,
I don't know how much longer I'll be able to stay on this ship! It has been so long since I have felt solid grown. I have gotten sea sick too many times to count. Noah isn't doing so well he has grown very ill with pneumonia and we are afraid for the worst. James too has gotten sea sick a lot and he now refuses to go up on deck with his new friends in fear he will get sick. Maryanne is very homesick and spends most of the time with mother and Father who spends most of his time trying to make mother as comfortable as possible. Everyone is so ready to get off this ship.

November 9-15 1620,
66 days later we have finally reached America! We originally wanted to go to Virginia, but because of storms, we were knocked off course and ended up on Plymouth Massachusetts instead. We didn't get off the ship right away when we landed. We spent a few more weeks to prepare everything that was to go off the boat. We sent some men to go and scout the land out to decided the best spot for our colony. We even wrote a letter back to England called "The Mayflower compact" which father and some other men got to sign. Mom is getting closer to having the baby all the boys are hoping she will have a boy. Maryanne, however, wants it to be a girl. As for me I honestly don't know. I suppose that I would be fine with both. Everyone is very eager to get off the boat, especially mother. We're all hoping that it is sooner rather than later.

December 22 1620,
Mom went into labor early this morning we haven't heard anything yet, but it has been like 12 hours since we were woken up! I hope that everything goes okay. We were able to get off the ship and build our new home just in time for mom to give birth. We finished it 2 days ago! Anyways to get our mind off of mom and the new baby we kids decided to go and play outside. Maryanne, Jane and I played with dolls while the boys messed around with each other. It's very cold and cloudy I have overheard some grownups saying how worried they are that we will be hungry and cold this winter they think that most of us aren't going to make it through! Everyone is very weak after those horrible months on the Mayflower that we have already have lost 7 more people and a lot of people are very sick!

After what seemed like forever, we finally heard Pa calling us back! We ran and met him at the front door, he said that everything had gone great, but Ma was very tired and that we couldn't stay long. Then Noah exclaimed, "is it a boy or girl?" we all looked at Pa curiously waiting for his answer. He said that his name was John Henry Lewis and that Her name was Elizabeth Avery Lewis. I couldn't believe my ears. Twins! We have twin siblings! We walked into ma's room. Where we saw mother, John, and Elizabeth all lying on the bed. They were so small and perfect. They were sleeping next to mother slowly breathing. Ma said that we would need to help out even more now that we have 2 new family members to take care of. We quietly then stepped outside so Ma and the twins could get some rest. We all were super excited and ran out to tell the other kids!
