Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president. He was the leader of the Union during the Civil war. He is also known as the tallest US president.


is for Bacon's Rebellion
Bacon's Rebellion was an armed rebellion in 1676. The colonists were led by Nathanial Bacon. They attacked and chased out Native Americans and the governor.


is for Carpetbaggers

Carpetbaggers are political candidates who seek election in an area where they have no local connection. Historically, a person from the northern states who went to the South after the Civil War. They were doing this to profit from the Reconstruction.

is for Detente

Detente is the easing of strained relations between two entities. Historically, The easing of tensions between America and the Soviet Union during the cold war. This was a specific policy by President Nixon.

is for Emancipation

The process of being set free from social/political restrictions. The Emancipation Proclamation was issued in 1863. This freed all slaves in the rebellious states during the Civil War.

is for Federalism

Federalism is a system of government in which entities such as states or provinces share power with a national government. This was the principle of the Federalist party during the creation of the USA. They believed in a more powerful central government.

is for Great Depression

The Great Depression was the worst economic downturn in the history of the industrialized world, lasting from 1929 to 1939. It began after the stock market crash of 1929, which sent Wall Street into a panic and wiped out millions of investors. Unemployment rose to 25%.

is for Henry Clay

Henry Clay was an American politician in the 1800's. He represented the state of Kentucky in both the Senate and the House of Representatives. He was known as "The Great Compromiser".

is for Imperialism

Imperialism is policy or ideology of extending a nation's rule over foreign nations. This is often done by military force. Imperialism was often used to gain more resources and power.

is for Jamestown

Jamestown is a historic site in east Virginia. Historic Jamestown is home to the ruins of the first permanent English settlement in North America. This was the first successful colony in North America, 13 years before the pilgrims.

is for Korean War

The Korean War was a war between North Korea and South Korea. The war began in 1950 when North Korea invaded South Korea following a series of clashes along the border. North Korea was backed by the soviet union while South Korea was backed by the United States.

is for Lusitania

The Lusitania was a British ocean liner and briefly the world's largest passenger ship. The ship was sunk on 7 May 1915 by a German U-boat 11 mi off the southern coast of Ireland. The sinking presaged the United States declaration of war on Germany.

is for Manhattan Project

The Manhattan Project was a research and development that produced the first nuclear weapons. It was led by the United States with the support of the United Kingdom and Canada. This development ended war with Japan in WWII.

is for Northern Colonies

The Northern colonies were the northernmost states in the British colonies. These consisted of New Hampshire, Massachussetts, Rhode Island, and Conneticut. These colonies were less agriculture based and more Religious.

is for OPEC

OPEC stands for The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries. This was formed in 1960 and consists of oil-rich middle eastern countries. They had an embargo on the United States in 1973 which drove oil to outrageous prices.

is for Proclamation of 1763

The Royal Proclamation of 1763 was issued by the King of England following the French and Indian War. It was mainly intended to conciliate the Indians by checking the encroachment of settlers on their lands. This royal proclamation was the first measure to affect all thirteen colonies.
