Have you ever been in the middle of a mundane activity, and all of a sudden start to feel very nervous? Or you may be doing something completely new, and you are feeling very overwhelmed? One of the reasons you may be feeling this way is anxiety. Anxiety is when you feel an extreme wave of nervousness or unease about completing an activity, and sometimes it can make us very stressed and uncomfortable. Anxiety can also prevent us from doing things that might look like a lot of fun, but are too scary to attempt in our minds.
Some people struggle with separation anxiety. This means that the idea of being away from a person or object you love might make you very upset. If this is how you’re feeling, there’s no need to worry! As soon as you start to feel worried about being apart, take a deep breath and remember that you will be reunited with what you’re missing later. Talk to a teacher, a friend, or read a book to take your mind off of it!
Sometimes, we get scared of talking in front of a lot of people. Even though it might just be friends in our classroom, it can be pretty daunting! Instead of getting upset or avoiding it, talk to your teacher so that you can practice. You can start in front of small groups to build your confidence! Before you go to present in front of people, think about a happy place you could pretend you’re in. You will master public speaking in no time!
Every once in a while, there isn’t a specific reason we are nervous, but it feels like EVERYTHING is making us feel that way! You may feel scared to take a test, to ask a friend for something, or feel like everyone is looking at you for no reason. Don’t fret! This feeling is completely NORMAL.
When you are feeling anxious it is important to ask yourself two questions; Am I tired? Am I hungry? Not getting enough food and sleep greatly affects the way our bodies function! Sometimes a quick bite to eat and a good night’s sleep can make us feel much better.
