This book is dedicated to my grandson Max Ladner. It is one of several on phonemic awareness. This book concentrates on alliteration for early readers. It was designed to be shared by experienced readers and early readers. I hope you have as much fun reading together as Max and I do!

Rhyming is a lot of fun! Kappalamas in your pajamas, is one Max made up! Alliteration is another fun way to practice phonemic awareness skills.

Alliteration is the repeated use of the same letter at the beginning of or within words that are close together in a sentence.
Let's try reading some alliteration and see if you can hear what I mean about repeated sounds.
But a better butter makes a batter better.

What repeated consonant sound did you just hear? Let's try another one...

A fly and a flea flew into a flute
Said the fly to the flea, "What shall we do?"
"let us fly" said the flea; said the fly "shall we flee!"

What repeated consonant sound did you just hear?
You probably didn't know, when you were younger, that you were constantly saying examples of alliteration.
They were fun for you to say and still are. You may have called them tongue twisters - which is also an alliteration!

Do you know the one about Peter Piper?
Peter Pipper picked a peck of pickled peppers.
A peck of pickled peppers Peter Pipper picked.
If Petter Pipper picked a peck of pickled peppers,
Where's the pickled peppers Peter Pipper picked?

What letter was the alliteration in the Peter Pipper Poem? Let's try another one...
Fresh Fried Fish,
Fish Fresh Fried,
Fried Fish Fresh,
Fish Fried Fresh

What sounds were alliteration in the Fried Fish tongue twister? Just 3 little words and 4 little sentences, can you say the whole poem fast? Let's try another one...
