“ You are you. Now, isn’t that pleasant?” – Dr. Seuss

Magnus Ågren was the Jarl (ruler) of a vicious band of Vikings who conquered much of Northern Europe in the early 10th century. He was the biggest, baddest, and meanest of all the Vikings. Most of Europe lived in fear of Magnus's army coming to loot and plunder their towns, leaving nothing but destruction in their wake. After his many years of battle, Magnus was beginning to grow weary being the leader of the Vikings. He was getting older and wanted his only son, Ingvar to follow in his footsteps. When he was old enough, Ingvar would become the new ruler of the people of Mestrverǫld. At least that was the plan.

But Ingvar did not share his father's desire for war and gold. He was a kind and gentle soul who wanted to make people happy. Ingvar would spend countless hours by the seashore playing his harp and singing songs filled with beautiful melodies. After being pressured for weeks by his father, Ingvar reluctantly agreed to join him and the other Vikings during their next excursion. Their plan was to attack the tiny fishing village of Hólsós before sunrise and take as much gold, food, and other supplies as possible.

Ingvar was fast asleep when his father burst into his room to wake him. "Rise up son! It is time for you to become a Viking!" Ingvar slowly rolled out of bed and got dressed before joining the rest of the Vikings on their ship. Magnus stood before his band of merciless marauders as he whipped them into a frenzy with one of his fiery speeches . Ingvar nodded off a couple of times but was awoken by the Vikings chant of "Mestrverǫld Forever!" And with that, Magnus and the Vikings set sail to conquer another village. Ingvar stared blankly at the sea trying not to think about the impending violence that awaited him.

As the Vikings stormed the unsuspecting villagers, Ingvar gingerly jumped off the boat and followed suit. Ingvar had never been aboard a ship and was a little clumsy. He tried to keep up with the other Vikings but his helmet, shield, and sword were far too heavy for a person his size. He tripped over his sword and knocked himself unconscious. Magnus and the other Vikings didn't notice that Ingvar had taken a tumble and carried on with their attack. From out of nowhere, an unlikely pair of onlookers found the young boy in distress and tried to help him.

Turns out that the two pint-sized beings that came to Ingvar's aid were Tooth Fairies. Sunrise Foxwhirl and
Posey Rainbowsprout were on their way home from Hólsós after leaving some coins under some children's pillows. They used their magic wands to conjure up enough fairy dust to help them transport Ingvar to their home, Hummingbird Island. The island was a magical land filled with joy, music, and friendship. All the fairies lived under the watchful eye of their Fairy Godmother, Dewdrop Purplecup. Many considered her to be the Oprah of the fairy world because of her generosity and wise advice.

"Who is this person you have brought to Hummingbird Island?" The Fairy Godmother asked. "This is Ingvar. We found him unconscious on the shores of Hólsós" Sunrise responded. "You know the rules, no humans are allowed on our island." "But there's something different about this boy" Posey interjected. "He's not like the rest of the Vikings. He has a big heart and a kind soul." "What do you have to say for yourself young man?" "I have no idea what's going on. This is like a really strange dream. I should be with my father raiding villages." "Is that what you really want?" inquired the Fairy Godmother. After a long pause, Ingvar responded, "Not really."

"Girls, show Ingvar around. I think he'll really enjoy his stay on Hummingbird Island." Ingvar and the fairies toured the island where everything smelled sweet like cinnamon. There were birds chirping, flowers blooming, and butterflies tickling his cheeks. "This place is amazing!" Ingvar raved. "Tell me more about your island." "Well, this is where fairies go to become Tooth Fairies. We actually have our own school. It's very prestigious and there is a long list of applicants" Sunrise answered. "What's the criteria?" "The most important quality is that you are pure of heart and delight in making people happy, especially children. Hey, you'd make a good Tooth Fairy."

"Oh c'mon! Boys can't be tooth fairies!" Ingvar chuckled. "Boys and girls can be anything they want to be. You'd love this job so much! We fly off to different places around the world at night. From there we take the child's lost tooth and leave some coins under their pillow. When the kids wake up, they are thrilled that we visited them" Sunrise added. "I don't know. I mean I don't even have wings." "Not a problem. We'll take you to our workshop. They have everything you need to become a Tooth Fairy" Polly gushed. "What the heck? It sounds like you two really love your job."

"What's with all the giant boxes of fairy dust?" "We use it for everything. It gives us magical powers. We sprinkled a bit of it on you in order to fly you to the island." "But why so much?" "We buy in bulk from Costco. Better to have too much than too little. Speaking of which, we have A LOT of Beefaroni in the back. If you want a couple of cases help yourself." "Um, sure. So what does a Tooth Fairy wear?" "Well, for starters you should ditch the boots. Tooth Fairies don't wear boots. I'd also lose the helmet." "Okay, but what about flying? I don't have wings." "Not yet. There's a special room we want to show you" Posey smiled.

"Here are your wings Ingvar." "Whoa! They're awesome! I can't wait to try them on and glide through the night sky. I can see it now, 'Ingvar the Tooth Fairy brings smiles to the faces of little boys and girls across the world.' Cool huh?" "Um, about that" Posey interrupted. "I think you'll need a more magical, fantastical name." "How about Ned?" Ingvar suggested. "How about not? I got it! You'll be Sparky Figfoot." Posey beamed. "Sparky Figfoot? You know, that's not half-bad. I present to you Sparky Figfoot!" "Well Sparky, it's time for us to get some sleep. We have a busy night ahead of us. We'll show you where you'll be staying."

The fairies took Sparky to a giant pink house made of marshmallows with a blue frosting roof. "This is not quite what I had in mind" he smirked. "It looks a little odd but believe me, you'll have the greatest sleep of your life once your head hits the velvet pillows" Sunrise smiled. "So we're going to sleep now? But it's only like four in the afternoon." "Yeah but we work at night, sometimes all night long" Posey said. "Don't worry, the blue icing helps block out the sun. Sweet dreams!" "If you say so. Sweet dreams!" Sparky remarked. It took some getting used to but he finally drifted off to sleep in a bed made of squishy jelly bears.

As the sun began to set on Hummingbird Island, Posey and Sunrise went to wake up Sparky. But their newest recruit was already fully awake and ready for his first mission. "Wow! Look at you!" Posey acknowledged. "Well, what are we waiting for girls? Let's go!" an anxious Sparky shouted. "This is a very rewarding job but it's a lot of work. Tonight is a rather quiet night for us as we're only going to hit 35 cities." "35 cities is a quiet night?" Sparky gasped. "On a good night, we'll hit close to 100" Sunrise added. "Keep calm and follow our lead. We'll be in contact with our Fairy Godmother the entire time. Our first stop is Grönberg, the City of Trolls."

"Hey there Tooth Fairy Squad. This is Yetu. He's 8 years old and just lost two of his baby teeth." "Thanks Fairy Godmother. We'll take it from here" Posey replied. Sparky gently lifted Yetu's head as Sunrise placed two gold coins underneath his pillow. "Good job Sparky" she whispered. "I wish I could be here to see the big smile on his face tomorrow morning." "Me too but we have a lot more children to visit tonight" Posey said. The trio exited the young troll's bedroom window into the cool night sky. "This may seem like a silly question, but what do we do with all of these teeth?" Sparky quizzed the girls. "You know what, I'm not sure" a puzzled Posey responded.

"This has been so much fun!" Sparky said as a big smile lit up his face. "Now what?" "Now we head back to Hummingbird Island and get ready for tomorrow night's adventures" Sunrise grinned. "Oh, and about the coins? Where do they come from?" "We have a deal with a friendly leprechaun who gives us all the coins we need from his pot of gold." "Wow! What a wonderful place. Everyone is so kind and considerate. But I don't know how much longer I can stay. I'm sure my Dad is worried about me." "It's up to you Sparky. If you're not happy being a Viking perhaps you could join us full time" Posey offered. "That would be so cool!"
