This is me. My name is George Washington. This is a painting of me. Painted by Gilbert Stuart in 1795. You may have seen my face before because I am on the one dollar bill.

How did my face end up on the dollar bill? That is kind of a big deal, right? Let me tell you more about me so you can see how this came to be.

I was born in Westmoreland County, Virginua on February 22, 1732. I was the oldest child of all my siblings. I don't share too much about my childhood. But I will give you some advice. Don't chop down your father's favorite cherry tree.

When I was a boy, I loved to ride horses!

This is Mount Vernon. My home. It belonged to my half-brother but he passed it on to me. It is very important to our family.

Here I am, riding my best horse and leading my men into battle. They trust me to make the best decisions and we all work together to protect our country.

This is when I took my oath as the first President of the United States of America in New York City. Being the President is very important and a big responsibility.
