Moses had asked the King of Egypt, the Pharaoh, to let all of the Hebrew slaves free. After God sent a sickness down upon Egypt, the Pharaoh agreed to let Moses take the Israelites to freedom.

However, after the Pharaoh let them free, he regretted it and wanted his slaves back. He got his 600 best chariots and all his other chariots and set them off to fight.

The Israelites were trapped! With mountains on one side and a large ocean called the Red Sea on the other, the Israelites were scared and could not escape the Pharaoh's army. They got angry at God and Moses for making them leave, saying they'd prefer to be slaves than die in the desert.

Moses answered the grumbling of the people and said: "Don't be afraid. Stand firm and you will see what the Lord will give you. The Egyptians you see right now, you'll never see again. The Lord will fight for you, just stand still".
