For my talented, quirky, wonderful, modest daughter, Tivvy (who told me what to write here).
I have loved our first collaboration.

Suzy’s not like other girls, she’s never quite awake—
She naps throughout her breakfast and sleeps at morning break.
She’s not like all her other friends, her eyes droop to the floor—
And when she walks, she often trips or bumps into the door.
.

She wakes up of a morning, then goes right back to sleep,
And when her brother’s playing, Suzy’s busy counting sheep.
When Suzy’s on a school trip to wildlife parks or zoos,
You’ll find her cuddled in the corner with the lemurs for a snooze.

If you ask her to your party and your party starts at five,
She’ll fall asleep at four fifteen and probably won’t arrive.
And when all her friends are playing and shouting in the park,
Suzy’s head’s beneath the covers and she’s dreaming in the dark.

Ask her what she did last week, she’ll bite her lip and think,
But she won’t remember anything because she was having forty winks.
Suzy’s mum will ask her what she learned that day at school,
And all she’ll say is, ‘How to sleep and not to snore or drool.’
Take her to the pictures to see the latest movie,
But she won’t make it through the trailers, our woozy, sleepy Suzy.

Now on the other side of town, lives wide-awakey Wendy,
She hardly ever sleeps at all and is extra-super friendly.
Wendy’s always on the go: morning, noon and night.
When other kids are fast asleep, she’ll be playing with her kite.
When all is quiet throughout the house and other people slumber,
Wendy’s dancing in her room to the latest disco number.
At midnight when the clock chimes twelve, Wendy’s bright and bushy-tailed,
And her latest finger painting is about to be unveiled.
