I dedicate this book to anyone who ever had to experience being the new kid in class while not knowing when or how they would fit in. Remember there is a place for everyone it all starts with a smile.
It was a few weeks into the year and June was walking into a new elementary school for the 8th time.
June's dad was a high ranking general for the United States Army. This caused their family to constantly move from one place to another depending on her father's assignment.
In her almost 10 years June had already traveled the world alongside her father.
Some may say this is amazing but for June it just meant she had to make temporary friends in a temporary home.
June was sad she had to leave her friends behind after her move.
"We can always call or visit, sweetie!" said June's father as they walked into the school.
Tice Elementary is the biggest elementary school that June has attended so far. This only added to her anxiety. The hallways seemed to stretch for miles and miles on end.
Being the new kid is always scary but for June it had become just part of the moving routine. Although she had enjoyed learning new cultures as she lived around the world; saying good-bye to friends along the way was never easy.
On her first day at Tice Elementary she was walked to her new class by one of the office secretaries, Ms. Garcia. They walked down the main hall, past the library, and finally onto the 5th grade hall. There they were greeted by a 6 foot tall, bald headed man. June knew this must be Mr. Law since she focused not on his eyes but more on the school id he had on his lanyard.
Mr. Law asked June to enter his room and sent Ms. Garcia away with a wink of an eye. He shook June's hand and brought her into the room, all the while giving her the biggest smile she had ever seen. Even though they were just introduced, that smile made June feel comfortable.
"Good morning class, today we welcome June Johnson to our team. Can I get a welcome June from everyone?" said Mr. Law
"Welcome June!" exclaimed the class in unison.
"Now let's take a moment to introduce ourselves and share a good tip to survive the school year." said Mr. Law
