Emily lived in the Magical Forest with her 

mother and father.   Ever since she was little her 

biggest dream was to get out of the forest and 

go to college.   She always loved going to school 

because she got to learn new things and be 

with her friends. 

Emily could remember exactly when she began 

to want to go to college.   She was in 3rd grade 

and read a book about a monkey who wanted 

to go to college and become a dentist.   The 

monkey talked about all of the things that she 

learned in college and all of the new friends 

that she made.  Ever since then Emily has 

wanted to go to college. 

Emily's mother was not very encouraging in 

Emily's decision to go to college.   She thought 

that Emily would grow out of the idea to attend 

college.   However, as Emily got older and the 

time was soon approaching for Emily to start 

applying to college, she began getting worried. 

Throughout the next couple of months Emily 

and her mother would go visit her father at the 

hospital and spend time with him.   Emily told 

her father about her wish to become a 

doctor so she could help him get better.   One 

day after visiting him, Emily's mother told her 

that she would not be able to go to college 

because they no longer had the money to cover the cost.
