Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are the Jewish New Year. Schools are closed for Rosh Hashannah and Yom Kippur and grown ups do not go to work.

The Jewish New Year lasts for 10 days.

On Rosh Hashanah we hear the Shofar when we go to synagogue.

We say that we are "SORRY" for the mistakes we made.

During Yom Kippur, we pray to be forgiven for our mistakes.

And we think about how we can be better in the year to come.

Grown ups (adults) do not eat or drink on Yom Kippur. Children can and should eat and drink.

Grown ups (adults) also rest and think on Yom Kippur. You may also hear adults wishing one another an "easy fast" during Yom Kippur.

On Rosh Hashanah we have apples dipped in Honey for a sweet New Year.

What kind of apples do you like? We also have a round challah dipped in honey for Rosh Hashanah.

During Rosh Hashanah we say, "Shana Tova" (Happy New Year) to our friends and family.

We may send Rosh Hashanah cards to family and friends.
