In the Beginning, a blind old wombat who was very hungry and thirsty sat near a billabong.
A warragul (dingo) came by.
The old wombat cried, "Please help me! I'm blind and very hungry and thirsty. I need food and water."
The dingo shouted, "Get out of my way you silly old thing," and walked away, selfishly.
He showed no care or compassion.
An emu passed by. He was in a hurry to get to the billabong and told him to move out of his way.
One by one, each animal who passed by ignored or abused the old wombat. They would shout and tell him to get out of his or her way, including a goanna.
Just then, a kangaroo came by with a joey in her front paws. The kangaroo offered to get the wombat to a fresh billabong. The wombat accepted and had to hold on to mother kangaroo's tail and it was a very bumpy ride.
They stopped at a fresh billabong with very sweet grass but, before long, hunters were coming across from the other side of the billabong. The hunters were clutching their spears tightly in their hands.
The kangaroo told the wombat to get down while she distracted the hunters.
