Percy Jackson and The 

Olympians Book 2:

The Sea of Monsters

"AHHHHHHH!" yelled Grover when he was being 

chased in Percy's dream. Then Percy woke up from his 

dream because he felt like someone was watching him. 

But, he did not care because this was going to Percy's 

first year he was going to make the entire school year 

without getting sent to office or getting suspended. 

Nothing was going to change that for Percy.

Percy then arrives at Meriweather Prep, a school for 

delinquents, and finds his best friend, Tyson, there. 

The school day went like a normal one for Percy, which 

involved Percy getting bullied by everyone. Percy got 

bullied because he was the only person at Meriweather 

Prep that was friends with Tyson, the dumbest person 

in the school. But, then came gym class, where his 

day would be completely turned around.

Gym was Percy's second class of the day. Since it was the 

last day of school, the students got to pick what game they 

played. Matt Sloan and his gang of "giants" chose 

dodgeball. They chose the game because they were in 

eighth grade, while Percy, Tyson, and all the other kids in 

the class were in seventh grade. The teams was seventh 

grade and eighth, which was Percy, Tyson, and all the 

other scrawny seventh graders versus Matt Sloan and his 

gang of huge, broad giants.

Percy always noticed that Matt Sloan's gang were "giants", 

but he actually did not know that they were actual GIANTS! 

The giants knew that Percy was the son of Poseidon 

because of the way he smelled. Monsters are able to pick 

up the scent of demigods, so that is how the giants knew 

that Percy was a demigod.

Before Percy knew it the giants all grew even bigger. The 

giants aimed their balls right at Percy. 

Since Tyson was so big, he was able to protect Percy for the 

most. Tyson being big, but not as big as the giants, made 

the giants think twice about going after Percy. Without 

Tyson protecting Percy, Percy would have been dead. Tyson 

came back right after the giants and hit two of them. The 

giants disintegrated into black dust once they got out. But, 

Percy knew that they were not dead because monsters 

disintegrate into black dust and reform in someplace else. 

That was when there was only one giant left and it was the 

biggest one of them all. He threw a bullet at Tyson and took 

him out of the game. Then it was only the giant and Percy 

left in the game. Percy was knocked down from wind that 

was made from the contact that Tyson had with the ball. He 

thought the only chance that he had to stay alive was to pull 

out riptide and risking everyone knowing that he was a 

demigod. But before he could pull it out, the giant had a 

sword right through the middle of its body. Then he saw his 

friend Annabeth that had been watching him all morning. 

She told him to grab Tyson and come with her. She believed 

there was something wrong at Camp Half-Blood.

When Annabeth, Percy, and Tyson got to camp, they noticed 

it was being attacked by minotaurs. Percy was confused how 

the minotaurs got in because there is a shield that only 

allows demigods into the camp. There cannot be any human 

or monster that is able to cross the line.

Then they came into the camp and had to battle the 

minotaurs. Percy knew how to take care of them because he 

fought one last summer, when he first found out about the 

camp and first found out that he was a demigod.

When they were done with the battle Percy was wondering 

why everyone was acting like Tyson was some kind of 

disease. Then that got Percy wondering how Tyson was able 

to cross the border, when only demigods were able to cross 

the border.

Then he looked at Annabeth. 

Annabeth asked "You really don't know do you?"

Percy questioned "Know what?"

Annabeth said "Take a close look at him."

Percy took a closer look at Tyson and realized how Tyson got 

into the camp. Tyson was a cyclops, which is a disordered 

demigod. Percy was really embarrassed that he let in a 

cyclops. But, that was not the worst part. The next thing he 

knew Poseidon claimed Tyson to be his child. So, now Percy 

was even more embarrassed because not only he was Tyson's 

friend, he was his brother, too.

That was only the beginning of the struggles for Percy. Percy 

was told by Chiron that the reason why the minotaurs got into 

the camp was because of Thalia's tree being stabbed and 

leaking the magic that kept the camp a secret. Thalia is the 

daughter of Zeus that had a quest to battle a minotaur and 

failed. Her consequence was being turned into a tree.

The next night Percy had another dream about Grover, but 

this time he was having a conversation with him. Grover 

tells Percy that he is trapped in the Sea of Monsters by a 

cyclops named Polyphemus. Grover told Percy "it" is hear, 

but Percy woke up before he could ask what "it" is. The 

next morning, Percy asks Annabeth about what she 

thought the dream meant. 

Annabeth told Percy that she thinks Percy had found the 

Golden Fleece. They both knew that the Golden Fleece 

could cure Thalia's poisoned tree.

That night, when they all were gathered around the 

campfire, they asked Tantalus, who replaced Chiron as the 

camp councillor, if they could go on a quest to find the 

Golden Fleece. Instead of deciding to send Percy and 

Annabeth, who saved the camp the summer before, 

Tantalus decides to Clarisse.

Later that night, Percy sneaks out to the beach, while 

everyone else is asleep. Percy is met there by Hermes. 

Hermes gives Percy three duffel bags full of money and 

clothes, a box minotaur multivitamins, and a thermos 

containing the four winds. Percy is told that he must choose 

to board a passing cruise ship. That is when Annabeth and 

Tyson come, and they decide to go on the quest.

 While on their quest, Percy received help from Poseidon. 

Poseidon sent three hippocampii, hippos with wings and that 

are able to fly. Percy, Annabeth, and Tyson were all able to 

get across the sea, thanks to the help of Poseidon. Next, they 

found the cruise ship. At the end of the ship, it was revealed 

to them that the ship was the Princess Adromeda.   When 

they figured out that the ship was the Princess Adromeda, 

they also figured out that Luke was the owner of the ship.
